NASSIT New Director General

Thursday, 7th June, 2018 was a red letter day in the history of NASSIT as the erstwhile Director General, Mr Joseph Sedu Mans Jr., handed over to the new Director General, Mr Mohamed Fuaad Daboh at a ceremony held in the NASSIT Conference room in the presence of various stakeholders of the Trust, including the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Security, the Board of Trustees, Management and members of the Fourth Estate.

In his statement, the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Security, Hon. Lansana Dumbuya expressed his delight for the occasion, stating that as it was his first visit to NASSIT, he was sure the institution would continue to grow under the leadership of the new Director General. He said that very soon a new Board of Trustees would be constituted for NASSIT as that would also help the Director General in the operations of the trust.

The Interim Chairman of the Board of NASSIT, Mr Jennings A. B Wright, who is also President of the Sierra Leone Labour Congress, said that the New Director General should empower the informal sector wing of the Trust as the informal sector forms a bulk of the population. He noted that Sierra Leoneans expect a lot from NASSIT which indicates that there is a lot to be done by the New Director General. He appealed to Management to work in good faith with the Director General. He also asked that new Director General to concentrate on lowcost houses for ordinary workers in Sierra Leone.

In his statement, the outgoing Director General of NASSIT, Mr Joseph Sedu Mans Jr said that he was happy that this was the first time a handing over was taking place at NASSIT. He said he was leaving a reserve of Le1.5 trillion in the coffers of the Trust as compared to Le954 billion Leones which he inherited. He added that his administration tried to minimize going into investments as NASSIT is not an investment company. He noted that he was proud to have served the Trust as Director General from November 2014 to April, 2018 and thanked President Julius Maada Bio for allowing him to serve in office until retirement.

He added that he was leaving a membership of Two Hundred and Thirty Five Thousand , Four Hundred and Fifty Two contributors (235,452), noting that the 2017 Auditor General’s Report and the 3rd quarter NASSIT Audit Report will be out soon.

He concluded by saying that he was happy that his successor was one of ours in the Trust.

In his statement, the new Director General, Mohamed Fuaadd Daboh, said that on the 30th May, 2018, he received a letter from the Chief Minister about his appointment as Director General of NASSIT and on the 4th June, 2018 he appeared before Parliament for endorsement. He thanked President Julius Maada Bio for the appointment and said he believed it was the choice of God. He promised to use the NASSIT Act as his tool in the execution of his duties. The Director General asked all present to work with him as he intended to work round the clock to ensure that the objectives of the new direction are achieved.

Earlier, the Chairman for the occasion who is also the Director of Administration and Human Resource, Peter Jusu Kenah, stated that it was the first time in the history of the institution that a formal handing over ceremony from one Director General to another was taking place, describing both the outgoing and incoming Directors General as home-grown, an indication of the fact that with determination and hard work, “one can rise from obscurity to prominence”. While paying tribute to Mr. Joseph Sedu Mans Jr for having served the institution from inception up to the time of his retirement, Mr. Kenah congratulated Mr. Mohamed Fuaad Daboh on his appointment, saying that like all other institutions, NASSIT has its own challenges.

“We however believe that with your knowledge and former strategic placement in this organization, your t8ask is certainly going to be an interesting one”, Mr. Kenah averred. He encouraged the new Director General to be doing his utmost best “so that after a thousand years, people will look back and say that was your finest hour.
